TECNOFOAM wears green New green initiatives are discovered in our industry every day. There is an increasing demand for ecological building techniques and the field of construction is constantly searching for new green solutions in order to develop a more sustainable way of building. TECNOFOAM’s line of foams provides one of these "ECO" solutions, which we will explain in this article. In order to reinforce its added value, starting in January 2017, water-based TECNOFOAM foams will be produced in the color green. There are various ECO advantages of our water-based foams for thermal insulation: The blowing agent is water; the foam’s composition does not contain any gases that act as a blowing agent. In accordance with European regulations for gas emissions, TECNOFOAM water-based foams do not emit any toxic gases during application or over the course of their useful life (once they have been applied). Gases are not required to be captured for recycling and/or destruction, meaning that their removal does not require any sort of permit or special procedure. These systems are 100% recyclable, using mechanical means that are environmentally friendly. They do not contain any substances that could damage the ozone layer and therefore do no contribute to the greenhouse effect (NO HFCs, HCFCs, VOCs, etc.). This system has a continuous positive impact on the environment, since its "ECO" action is backed by the great energy savings it provides for construction that uses TECNOFOAM for thermal insulation. Furthermore, these foams have invariable thermal conductivity, remaining constant throughout the product’s useful life, and thereby optimizing the system’s thermal insulation capacity. The BBA (British Board of Agrement) certificate regulates aspects such as weather resistance, reaction-to-fire properties, base adhesion, resistance to pedestrian traffic, resistance to root penetration, and a useful life of more than 25 years. BBA certificates are especially valuable in English-speaking markets, and are essential for large-scale projects. What is Polyurea Polyurea description The polyurea is a synthetic polymer obtained from the reaction of a diamine with a diisocyanate, polymerization reaction is very similar to polyurethane one, but in case of polyurea, resulting link is a "urea", so it is called polyurea. By this link we get from generating molecular structure an insensitivity to moisture, thus making the polyurea (if pure) the best waterproof membrane. We say "if pure" because in the market there are numerous polyurea-called "hybrid", which are a mixture between polyurea and polyurethane. These membranes do not have the same mechanical properties as the pure polyurea (elongation, abrasion resistance, etc ...). The following graph clearly shows the difference. Polyurea (pure) = Polyamine + Isocyanate Polyurethane = Polyol + Isocyanate + Catalyst Polyurea (hybrid) = Polyamine + + Polyol+ Isocyanate Polyurea types (pure) Depending on polyurea chemical structure, it could be of two types: aliphatic or aromatic. The aromatic polyurea is more tenacious and not resists UV exposure, causing some discoloration and loss of shine, which is not recommended for applications "face side". On the contrary, aliphatic polyurea is resistant to UV radiation and it is excellent as a finish coat, because of its raw materials high costs, it makes it a polyurea of higher price range. Polyurea application The application of the polyurea is normally performed in hot state; for that is needed a hot spraying plural components (2-components) equipment under high pressure (type GRACO Reactor E-XP2). This equipment is capable of providing a pressure of 2700 psi at a temperature of 70 ° C. This kind of polyurea dry only in 3 or 4 seconds once applied. There is also the called cold polyurea or polyurea cold applied, it not requires a spraying equipment because it is processed manually using a rubber float, spatula or trowel. This polyurea takes longer to dry than faster one hot sprayed. Advantages and Properties of Polyurea There are many advantages and properties of polyurea membrane, then the most important detail: membrane without joints or overlaps and of maximum flexibility - up to 600% elongation. DESMOPOL MENTRO WATERPROOFING IN NEW DELHI The Delhi Metro (India) is a project being developed by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is divided into 4 phases. Work is currently in Phase III which is expected to be finished this year. We differentiate between “porous substrates” and “non-porous substrates”. Polyurethane or polyurea? Which to use? HISTORY In 1937, the research director, Otto Bayer, was working on the development of a synthetic fibre similar to the polyamides. During his experiments he used a reactive group which formed urethanes on contact with alcohol - and so polyurethanes were born. Initially however, no one knew what use to make of them, until 10 years later when the foundations were laid for current polyurethane foam products thanks to the invention of the first processing machine. In 1979 the first foam specifically developed for building insulation was formulated. The initial polyurethane membrane was subsequently developed as a product specifically designed for continuous and completely adherent waterproofing. This process revolutionized waterproofing techniques by offering a system with no joins, which could be adapted to any surface shape whilst providing excellent mechanical properties and long lasting durability. It was a significant improvement on existing acrylic systems, which presented difficulties when applied to flat areas (slope 0) It wasn’t until the 1990’s that Mark S Barton and Mark Schlichter developed and patented two-component polyurea. Its quick drying properties and resistance to moisture made it ideal for large surface area waterproofing projects. COMPOSITION POLYURETHANE Polyurethane membrane is formed by the reaction of an isocyanate and a polyol in the presence of a catalyst. Polyurethanes represent one of the most versatile polymer families around; depending on the polyol and isocyanate used, it is possible to obtain an infinite range of products, from the most rigid to the most flexible, with polyurethane membranes making up the latter end of the scale. POLYUREA Polyurea is the product of a union between an isocyanate and various polyamines. In contrast to polyurethane it does not require a catalyst, as the union is stronger and faster with double chemical bonds. It is resistant to high temperatures and moisture (the membrane may even form under water), although it is essential that the surface is dry to ensure proper adherence.
